Yesterday, I got to go to California with the University 1st Ward to Oakland and San Francisco. We met at the church in Reno to carpool early in the morning at 5:00 which meant I ha to get up at 3:00 to get ready and drive all the way to Reno! It was crazy on my way to Reno because the road workers were working on the roads on I-80 so there were a lot of lights, really bright lights. Wow. Good time driving! :) When I arrived at the church, we waited a bit and separated in groups to carpool and drove up to Oakland to the Oakland Temple. It was my first time, although I had seen it when I was a little girl my mom said. The temple was beautiful! We all went inside the visitor's center and watched the Joseph Smith movie. It was a good movie and I got to watch it in ASL. Afterward, we walked around the temple and took some pictures.
Then each group of cars went to do their own things. Some of us went to San Francisco. We got to ride down the crookedest road a couple of times. It was pretty cool. I could see the Coit Tower from there. The second time we went down, there were 3 boys holding their thumbs up. Silly boys! :)Then we went to Pier 39 and walked around. I got to see a Goldman for the first time! Never seen one before! Awesome... They made us and other people pay for their pictures. So I walked by them taking pictures of them with my cellphone without them noticing me. My Bishop and one of the counselors were kind to pay so we could have a picture with the Goldman and the Silverman. Sweet! :)
We watched a group of boys doing dances and a jump trick. It's crazy because they made people pay! They got $20 dollars from a few people before they would do their jump trick!! Ridiculous! Whatever... We got to watch a guy do a flip over two guys' arms.
After we walked around, we met at a restaurant with the Bishopric and some of the other groups. I got to eat a chowder soup. It was good. Then my group drove up to the Ciot Tower. Awesome! I remembered that a season of Amazing Race #16 that the final 3 teams had to climb down the Ciot Tower with some ropes. So awesome!! :) We got to look inside the Ciot Tower. There are amazing drawings on the wall. The Bishop's wife said that the paintings were painted in 1934 and that they depict life in California. Then Bishop and his wife decided to take us three up to the top of the tower. So we rode the elevator in a tight space! Then we climbed the stairs a bit. I was able to look outside at San Francisco and the ocean. Awesome sight! There were some old coins on the windowsill with the glass window. Then we went back down and looked in the little shop.
After the Ciot Tower, we traveled back to Reno. We stopped in Sacramento for dinner at Taco Bell and for gas. Bishop was very nice to buy us dinner! Then we went to a gas station and I noticed that there was a redbox machine. Perfect! Because I had two DVDs that I needed to return that night. So I put them back in the redbox. The Bishop's wife decided to rent a movie. And it turned out we got to watch the movie called To Save A Life on our way to Reno with the DVD player that was built in the car. Sweet! At first, they had a hard time getting the subtitles on and it finally came on, thankfully. :) We finished the move on time as we were arriving into Reno. It was a great day and I had a lot of fun!
